What are the costs?

This is the #1 question from all our clients. It's very hard to put an exact figure on it, with all our work being customized and budgets varying from team to team. Basically, if you have something in mind let us know. We work with each client individually to make our services fit into any budget. To give you some idea, we've done work for clients ranging from high schools to the pros, so there really isn't a budget we can't work around.

Do we provide any stock animation packages?

The short answer: No. As we see it, the only reason anyone would use stock animation is because it's cheap. We started 3dm studios to provide an alternative to stock clips. Though it's been tempting to offer packages of generic media, we have resisted becoming just another stock house. We do, however, structure our prices to be competitive with stock animation, that's just the current nature of this industry. We have a strong belief that there is still value in customized, quality work, and our success has proven it. Quality, above all else, is our goal.

What software do we work with?

The software we use includes: Alias|Wavefront's Maya(3D Software), and 3dm proprietary motion graphics/imaging software.

Award winning staff . . . what awards?

Our staff has won many awards over the years, mostly in the field of 3d animation. Specifically for work on animated shorts focusing on 3d character animation, hence our focus on mascot/character work. World Animation Celebration, SIGGRAPH, TechTV, etc.

What are media extension services?

Media Extension: a group of services developed from experience gained by working closely with many minor league teams over the years. We believe that building and maintaining a cohesive and consistent team identity is one of the most important elements defining the success in minor league sports today. We have developed a collection of services to help teams unify all media exposure, from video boards to TV advertising, to web content and merchandising design. For example, we have been surprised to see so few mascots being used as marketing tools. For many teams, especially in the more entertainment oriented minor league sports, mascots and logos are the #1 identifying factors for fans. Before the advent of high-end 3d animation, specifically character animation, utilizing mascots in this way has been nearly impossible. At 3dm studios, we live for character animation, it's our absolute favorite type of animation to produce and in the sports industry, with thousands of mascots/characters, we are in a unique position to put those mascots to work, utilizing the marketing potential of the modern mascot. This may sound like we are just trying to hock our services here, but this is something we truly believe can help teams increase ticket sales. For instance, imagine an advertisement featuring a 3d version of a mascot. Now imagine that same mascot on the video board yelling, dancing, beating up other mascots, etc. Now imagine the mascot featured on merchandising, creating an extra stream of team revenue. This is something that has been used in brand marketing for many years, using characters/mascots to build strong brand identities. Mascots are ready-made, just begging to be put to use . . . Unity through design - Consistency in approach - Solid team identities. Media Extension.

Are there any limits to our capabilities?

We've never met a clip we couldn't produce. In our view, the ultimate challenge in media/animation production is character animation. If you can capture the nuances involved in character creation and animation, everything else is simple. So, no, there is no limit to what we can do.

What's new at 3dm studios?

Well, we have added the media extension services. We have redesigned the website, again . . . Oh, we have recently produced some video board graphics that, as far as we know, have never been tried . . . Thanks to creative collaboration with the great Kevin Harp, Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees/Dorados, we have produced clips featuring a mascot actually yelling at the crowd, complete with audio, a lip-synched 3d mascot motivating the crowd(Make Noise!, Defense!, etc.) The feedback has been very encouraging for this new way of enticing fans. Very cool. Also, we are working on a way of delivering high quality media at no cost to teams, more on that one later . . . stay tuned.
